Car Fires in Austria: EV & Vehicle Blazes Reported in Innsbruck & Tyrol
An electric vehicle caught fire in Innsbruck, Austria, on Saturday afternoon, prompting a response from the city’s fire department. The incident occurred around 3:00 PM local time on Lönsstraße, according to a statement released by the Tyrol Police.
Firefighters were alerted by residents who observed flames emanating from the parked car. The fire was extinguished without injuries. The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation, but initial findings suggest a technical defect within the vehicle’s electrical system, potentially related to the battery or associated components, police reported.
A separate vehicle fire occurred on March 15, 2026, in Innsbruck’s Egger-Lienz-Straße. That incident, also investigated as a potential technical defect, involved the deployment of Innsbruck’s professional fire brigade, six firefighters, and a rescue ambulance. No injuries were reported in that case either.
On Sunday, a fire broke out in a garage in Innsbruck, completely destroying three cars. Authorities determined that a technical defect in the battery of a hybrid vehicle was the likely cause of that fire. While no evacuation was necessary and no one was injured, the incident resulted in significant damage to the vehicles and surrounding structures.
In a separate incident on March 15, Innsbruck police discovered the bodies of a man and a woman in a stairwell of an apartment building. Preliminary investigations indicate the 31-year-old man, a Turkish citizen, fatally stabbed his 37-year-old wife, an Austrian citizen, before taking his own life with a kitchen knife.
