Canada Soccer & CSME: Landmark Partnership to 2037 Unlocks Revenue Streams

Canada Soccer and Canadian Soccer Media and Entertainment (CSME) announced a restructured commercial partnership on Friday, February 13, 2026, extending their collaboration through December 31, 2037. The agreement, described as “transformational” by Canada Soccer CEO Kevin Blue, shifts the financial framework to a revenue-sharing model with guaranteed annual minimums.

The renewed partnership expands CSME’s mandate to encompass Canada Soccer’s licensing activities, integrating them with existing sponsorship and media rights management. This consolidation aims to streamline commercial operations and maximize revenue generation as Canada prepares to co-host the FIFA World Cup with the United States and Mexico this summer. The deal represents a significant departure from previous arrangements, which faced years of criticism regarding the federation’s monetization of its assets.

Under the novel structure, both CSME and Canada Soccer will each retain 50 per cent of adjusted gross revenue up to $10 million annually. Canada Soccer’s share increases by 1 per cent for each additional $1 million in gross revenue generated. Once gross revenue surpasses $22.5 million, Canada Soccer will receive 70 per cent of all remaining adjusted revenue. This progressive revenue split is intended to incentivize collaborative growth and ensure Canada Soccer benefits proportionally from increased commercial success.

“After extensive work, we are pleased to have amended this partnership into a new structure that is significantly more favourable to Canada Soccer, creating a clear pathway for commercial and financial success – especially in future years as opportunity in our sport continues to increase,” Blue stated. James Johnson, CEO of CSME, echoed this sentiment, characterizing the agreement as a “transformation, both commercially and structurally, of our sport here in Canada.”

The partnership includes scheduled “look-ins” every three years to reassess the terms of the agreement, allowing for adjustments based on market conditions and performance. This feature provides flexibility and ensures the partnership remains aligned with the evolving landscape of Canadian soccer. The agreement is designed to deliver greater value for players, fans, and commercial partners, while supporting sustained success on and off the pitch.

CSME’s broadened mandate and the revenue-sharing model are expected to “open the floodgates” for commercial revenue, according to industry analysts. The enhanced structure aims to foster a more integrated platform for driving sustainable growth across all facets of Canadian soccer, from grassroots development to the national teams. The focus is on connecting the base of the soccer pyramid to the peak, promoting a holistic approach to the sport’s development.

The agreement follows a period of internal strain and public scrutiny surrounding Canada Soccer’s financial practices. The restructuring is intended to address these concerns and establish a more transparent and accountable commercial framework. The long-term nature of the deal, extending to 2037, provides Canada Soccer with financial stability and a clear path for investment in the sport’s future.
