Canada School Shooting: Active Shooter Alert in Tumbler Ridge – Suspect Dead
A suspect is dead following an active shooter incident at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia, Canada, prompting a police lockdown of the remote community and surrounding areas. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) confirmed the original suspect was found deceased, but continue to investigate the possibility of a second individual involved.
The RCMP issued an emergency alert at 3:15 pm on Tuesday, February 10, urging residents of Tumbler Ridge and nearby areas to “stay inside and shelter in place, lock your doors and refrain from leaving your home or business at this time.” The alert followed reports of an active shooter at the school, located in the foothills of the Rockies.
Staff Sergeant Kris Clark of the RCMP stated, “The original suspect is believed to have been located deceased. Work continues to determine whether a second suspect was involved and the total number of victims involved.”
School District 59 confirmed it was aware of the lockdown and “secure and hold” protocols at both Tumbler Ridge Secondary and Tumbler Ridge Elementary schools. The district did not provide further details.
Local news outlet CJDC-TV News reported that police described the suspect as a female with brown hair, wearing a dress. Every available police officer in the region was dispatched to Tumbler Ridge, according to CJDC-TV News.
An air ambulance was dispatched to the scene, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported, though the extent of any injuries remains unclear. Authorities have not released information regarding potential victims.
