OTTAWA – Teh Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has deported three foreign nationals accused of operating an extortion racket in Canada, following a surge in violent crimes and threats targeting businesses and homes, particularly within the South Asian community. The action comes as authorities investigate a network linked to a rise in incidents across the country.
according to officials, the CBSA has identified 78 other individuals suspected of involvement in similar criminal networks and has initiated immigration investigations.
The increased enforcement follows a series of shootings outside the homes and businesses of entrepreneurs. Targets have included Kapil Sharma’s Café 2727 restaurant.
In response to the escalating violence, the British Columbia Extortion Task Force was formed, comprised of 40 members from various policing agencies. The recent deportations were carried out under the task force’s mandate to curb extortion threats and violence.
“The CBSA has initiated immigration investigations into 78 foreign nationals who might potentially be inadmissible and has deported three individuals related to these investigations,” the agency stated.
