Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Receives Historically Low User Scores
Berlin – The launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has been met with widespread player dissatisfaction, resulting in record-low user scores on the review aggregation platform Metacritic. the PC version of the game currently holds a rating of just 1.7, the lowest ever recorded for a Call of Duty title. This score falls below that of 2023’s Modern Warfare 3, which also received poor reviews.
The overwhelmingly negative reception stems from a multitude of issues, according to player feedback. Criticism centers on the game’s campaign, frequently described as “horrible,” alongside complaints regarding server performance, unbalanced multiplayer spawn points, and a perceivedly flawed movement system. The controversial skill-based matchmaking system, accused of penalizing skilled players, is also drawing significant ire.
Many reviewers express a lack of innovation, alleging the developers have largely re-released previous titles with minimal changes. Some also cite the use of artificial intelligence in development as contributing to a “soulless” feel. As of reporting,84 percent of over 1,500 reviews on Metacritic are negative (source: Metacritic).
The poor launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 presents a challenge for Activision, but may benefit competing shooter franchises. Disappointed players are reportedly considering alternatives, such as Battlefield 6, with some already announcing their intention to abandon the Call of Duty series.
