Cahors Schools Prepare for 2025-2026 Year with Continued Inclusion, New Initiatives
Cahors, Lot – August 29, 2025 – Cahors schools are gearing up for the 2025-2026 academic year with a focus on maintaining current services, fostering inclusivity, and introducing innovative educational projects. Despite ongoing challenges, including student housing shortages, the city is committed to a stable and enriching learning habitat for its students.
This year’s preparations come as Cahors addresses a critical need for affordable student housing, a concern highlighted recently as students prepare to return for the fall semester. Beyond this, the city is prioritizing the continuation of essential services and the implementation of new programs designed to enhance the educational experiance for all students, from early childhood through elementary school. 68 classes will be maintained-22 at the maternelle level and 46 at the élémentaire level-ensuring no class closures disrupt the learning process.
The Cahors municipal council for children, comprised of two students per class meeting bi-weekly, has proposed the installation of a “bench of friendship” in each school. These benches, designed to be painted and decorated by students, will serve as dedicated spaces for connection and solidarity.
Several schools will benefit from new resources and partnerships. École Jean Calvet will receive a “Fablabs” kit from Canopé, including a 3D printer, for a year-long project with its CM2 class. École Zacharie Lafage will collaborate with the Ligue de protection des oiseaux on a biodiversity awareness project centered on hedgehog preservation.
Hélène Leneveu-Rivière confirmed that cantine prices will remain unchanged, and the périscolaire program will continue to be free for all schools, with a minimal participation fee-a few centimes-required at two schools for the ALAÉ (accueil de loisirs associé à l’école) program.
Parents and students can find further information on the city’s website regarding school schedules, registration, and available resources as the new school year begins.
