CHICAGO – Chicago Cubs right-hander Cade Horton exited Tuesday’s game against the New York Mets after three innings due to back tightness. The Cubs announced the move was a precautionary measure after horton threw just 29 pitches.
Horton, a leading contender for National League Rookie of the Year, surrendered a leadoff home run to Francisco Lindor but otherwise pitched effectively before his early departure. He allowed two hits, recorded two strikeouts, and left the game with the Cubs ahead 5-1.The Cubs later saw their lead erased as the Mets rallied against the Chicago bullpen, scoring five unearned runs off Michael Soroka to tie the game and eventually take the lead in a contest with potential playoff implications for both teams.
At 24 years old, Horton is 11-4 on the season with a 2.67 ERA across 118 innings pitched. His 11 wins are the most among all rookie pitchers, and his ERA is the lowest among rookies with at least 100 innings logged. The Cubs have not announced a timeline for horton’s return or the severity of the back issue.
