Petaling Jaya, Malaysia – June 20, 2025 – Malaysian authorities are responding forcefully to recent incidents of reckless bus driving captured in viral videos. The Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) has confirmed that tickets have been issued to drivers involved in dangerous practices, including speeding and using mobile phones while transporting passengers. The crackdown follows public outcry over safety concerns.
The incidents, which occurred on routes between Kuala Lumpur and Mersing Harbor, and at the Kulai rest stop on the North-South Expressway, sparked widespread condemnation after being shared on social media platforms. One video showed a driver allegedly watching videos on his phone while driving, ignoring passenger complaints (TikTok@lahabdul88). Another showed a bus dangerously overtaking vehicles and using emergency lanes.
APAD Issues Penalties and Warnings
Datuk Eddie Fadri, director of the Land public transport Agency, stated that a P22 ticket (Notis P22) was issued to the bus drivers involved, acting under the Land Transport Act of 1987 and its regulations. Moreover, an inquiry notice (Notice 114) has been issued to another bus, its driver, and owner concerning the Mersing incident, perhaps leading to further legal action.

Bus Companies Under Scrutiny
APAD is holding bus companies accountable, reminding them of their responsibility to monitor driver behavior and ensure compliance with all traffic regulations. The agency has warned that it will not compromise on any violations and will take severe action against offending individuals or companies.
The crackdown comes as Malaysia aims to improve its road safety record. In 2024, there were 5,914 road fatalities in Malaysia, highlighting the urgent need for stricter enforcement and safer driving practices (Ministry of Transport Malaysia).
