WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray has suggested that a substantial financial offer from Saudi Arabia could be the key to finally staging a match between Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Roman Reigns.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, as transcribed by Wrestling Inc., Ray stated, “I just suppose when there’s that much money on the table, anything is possible. I think that the Saudi government is going to basically inform The Rock, fill in the blank and we’ll sign the check, Rock versus Roman. There’s not a state in the United States and I don’t believe that there is a country on the planet that can outbid Saudi.”
The potential matchup between Reigns and Johnson has been a recurring topic of speculation for the past five years, consistently rumored for WrestleMania but never materializing. Most recently, Reigns was slated to face Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40, a storyline that briefly appeared to pivot towards a confrontation with Johnson. Rhodes had seemingly been given the opportunity to challenge for Reigns’ championship, but WWE ultimately maintained its original plan for Reigns to defend the title against Rhodes.
Instead, Johnson teamed with Reigns at WrestleMania 40, defeating Rhodes and Seth Rollins in a tag team match. The next WrestleMania, scheduled for Saudi Arabia, presents a recent opportunity. Bully Ray’s comments highlight the significant financial influence Saudi Arabia wields in the world of professional wrestling. The country has become a key market for WWE, hosting major events and reportedly offering substantial financial incentives to secure high-profile matches.
