BUFFALOES OPEN LONE STAR CONFERENCE ACTION IN SILVER CITY
CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M Athletics begins Lone Star Conference play this Saturday, September 14th, traveling too Silver City, New Mexico, to face Western New Mexico. The Buffs enter the contest with a 5-1 all-time record on games played on September 13th, most recently defeating Tarleton State 31-27 in 2014, but falling to them in their previous meeting in 2014.
The return of radio broadcasts for the 2025-26 campaign allows Buff Nation to follow the action with kent Johnson, Lucas Kinsey, and Brice Sheets calling the game in partnership with Alpha Media. Football pregame begins 30 minutes prior to kickoff, with Thursday night’s broadcast available online at GoBuffsGo.com / KGNCNewsNow.com and locally in the Texas Panhandle on 710 AM and 97.5 FM.
West Texas A&M competes in the Lone Star Conference, boasting 83 NCAA national team championships. Founded in 1931 and headquartered in Richardson, Texas, the LSC spans three states – Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma – and is tied as the largest Division II conference. The league is coming off a accomplished 2024-25 year with NCAA Division II national championships in women’s golf (DBU) and softball (UT Tyler).

bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium in Canyon will continue to host the NJCAA Division I Football National Championship Game through 2027, beginning with the 2025 contest. The agreement is a partnership between West Texas A&M, the Amarillo Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the Canyon Chamber of Commerce.
