Buffalo Bills kicker Chase McLaughlin underwent surgery to repair a right knee injury and is expected to miss the remainder of the 2023 season, the team announced Tuesday. The injury occurred during pregame warmups prior to the Bills’ Week 13 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The loss of McLaughlin presents an immediate challenge for Buffalo as they navigate a crucial stretch of the season, including a highly anticipated Week 14 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. McLaughlin had been a reliable contributor for the Bills, converting 19 of 22 field goal attempts and all 33 extra point tries this season. The team has signed Tyler Bass to fill the vacancy, elevating him from the practice squad.
McLaughlin, 27, joined the Bills in May after previously playing for the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, and San Francisco 49ers. He had successfully taken over the kicking duties following the release of veteran kicker, Brandon Potvin, earlier in the season.Bass, who previously played for the Bills from 2020-2022,will be tasked with providing stability at the position during McLaughlin’s absence.
