Brussels Airport Arrest Yields 14 Kilograms of Synthetic Drugs
Brussels – A man from Saint-Nicolas faces a potential 60-month prison sentence following his arrest at Brussels Airport on March 30th with 14 kilograms of synthetic drugs, including amphetamines, ketamine, and MDMA. Prosecutors presented evidence in court Thursday suggesting the man transported drugs on multiple occasions.
Investigators discovered the drugs during a customs inspection of the suspect’s backpack as he prepared to board a flight. The prosecution further alleges the defendant made three prior trips in recent months, noting that “Each time, his luggage was heavier at the start than in his return,” indicating potential outbound drug shipments.
The defense argued for a suspended sentence to allow the man to retain his employment, claiming he accrued a 25,000 euro debt during the pandemic to “bad people” and was coerced into drug trafficking to repay it, facing a 500 euro monthly interest rate. The lawyer stated the drug transport ceased upon his client’s arrest.
A judgment is expected on October 6th.
