Brookfield Theft: Man Injures Officer During Police Chase, Charged with 8 Felonies

A 30-year-old man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly stealing laptops from a Best Buy in Brookfield, Wisconsin, and leading police on a chase that extended into Milwaukee County on Friday, February 6, 2026. Elenzo Harvester is currently held in the Waukesha County Jail on a $125,000 bond, according to court records.

The incident began when police responded to a report of a retail theft at a business on Bluemound Road near Janacek Road. Authorities were informed that a man had stolen four laptops and fled in a white Chevrolet SUV. An officer located the SUV and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver initially complied only to back into the officer’s squad car before a passenger took control of the vehicle and again rammed the squad.

According to the criminal complaint, Harvester then drove forward, colliding with a pickup truck and several parked vehicles as he attempted to escape. One individual sustained injuries although attempting to avoid being struck. The original driver of the SUV, who was detained at the scene, told police he did not know Harvester was stealing items and had not given him permission to leverage the vehicle.

A pursuit ensued, leading officers through the parking lot, onto Main Street, and then Bluemound Road. Harvester briefly drove into oncoming traffic on Moorland Road. Police attempted to stop the SUV using a PIT maneuver near Carpenter Road, but the attempt was unsuccessful. A second PIT maneuver was initiated, and court filings state Harvester “intentionally steered his vehicle” toward a pursuing squad car, causing the officer to lose control and crash into a tree. The officer was transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

The chase continued onto I-94 eastbound, where Harvester’s SUV lost its front tires. Despite the damage, he continued driving into Milwaukee County. Officers attempted five additional PIT maneuvers without success. Harvester eventually exited I-94 at Highway 100, where a successful PIT maneuver was executed, bringing the SUV to a stop on the off-ramp. A Wisconsin State Patrol trooper assisted in boxing in the vehicle.

Harvester exited the SUV and jumped over a concrete barrier, falling several feet before fleeing on foot. Brookfield police lost sight of him, but officers with the West Allis Police Department later located him hiding in the back of a tree service truck. A search of the truck, filled with woodchips, revealed no weapons or contraband. The stolen laptops, valued at over $3,000, were recovered.

Harvester was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation. When questioned by police, he “declined to give a statement, and was generally uncooperative,” according to the complaint. He is charged with eight felonies, including retail theft, fleeing police, and hit-and-run. The Waukesha County District Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the case.
