Broncos 2026 NFL Draft: Could Nicholas Singleton Be a Steal in Round 4?

March 23, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

Denver Broncos scouts are evaluating Penn State running back Nicholas Singleton as a potential draft pick on day three of the 2026 NFL Draft, according to multiple reports.

The 6-foot, 219-pound Singleton presents an intriguing combination of size and speed, potentially fitting a need for the Broncos in the fourth round, analysts say. However, his collegiate career was marked by inconsistency, following a breakout freshman year with a sophomore slump, a strong junior season, and a disappointing senior year. He declared for the draft after his junior year but opted to return to Penn State for his senior season, a decision that ultimately impacted his draft stock.

During his four years at Penn State, Singleton carried the ball 622 times for 3,461 yards, averaging 5.6 yards per carry, and scored 45 rushing touchdowns. He also contributed as a receiver, hauling in 102 passes for 987 yards and nine touchdowns. His most recent season saw him rush for 549 yards and 13 touchdowns on 123 carries, averaging 4.5 yards per carry, with 24 receptions for 219 yards and one receiving touchdown.

Singleton’s draft prospects took a hit after suffering a broken foot during practice for the Senior Bowl. Despite the injury, scouts continue to see potential in his earlier performances. NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein described Singleton as a “well-built back with explosive speed” whose 2025 season was underwhelming after a strong 2024. Zierlein noted Singleton’s linear running style and questioned his vision and instincts compared to his teammate, Kaytron Allen.

Analysts point to Singleton’s explosiveness, burst, and acceleration as key strengths, along with his power and ability to run through tackles. He’s also considered a reliable pass blocker, giving him potential as a three-down back. However, concerns remain about his vision, stiffness in making cuts, and overall consistency.

One analyst suggested that, if available in the fourth round, Singleton could provide depth behind veteran running back JK Dobbins, offer another receiving threat out of the backfield, and contribute on special teams as a kick returner. The Broncos acquired wide receiver Jaylen Waddle from the Miami Dolphins earlier this year, impacting their draft capital and potentially opening a spot for a player like Singleton later in the draft.

The 2026 NFL Draft is scheduled to be held in Pittsburgh from April 23-25.
