British Tourist Drowns After Jumping From Ferry off Spain’s Costa Dorada

Fatal Leap on the Cambrils-Salou Passenger Ferry
The fatal incident took place on Friday afternoon as the tourist ferry neared the end of its five-mile journey along the northeastern coast of Spain in Catalonia. The 45-year-old man threw himself from the ferry shortly before it reached the port of Salou. His 42-year-old brother followed him into the sea in an attempt to reach the coast, ultimately surviving the ordeal, while their parents remained on board the vessel.
Emergency Response and Recovery at Salou Port
Passengers alerted the ship’s crew at approximately 6:41 p.m. local time (5:41 p.m. BST) after seeing the men go overboard. Maritime Rescue teams were immediately deployed to search the area. Authorities recovered the body of the 45-year-old man later that evening. Mossos d’Esquadra officers cordoned off a section of the beach, and a forensic doctor arrived at the scene at 9:25 p.m. local time to carry out the removal of the remains, which were identified shortly before 10 p.m.
Civil Guard Probe and Tarragona Drowning Statistics
The Civil Guard in Tarragona has opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the drowning, and an autopsy is currently underway. Regional reporting notes that this incident marks the 14th drowning off the Tarragona coast during the summer season, and the first recorded fatality for the month of September.

El Pais reported that two other men lost their lives off Catalan beaches during the same period, including a 78-year-old French man who drowned while swimming at Lloret de Mar beach in Selva, alongside another drowning incident in Colera.
