Brewers Fans Tailgate at American Family Field for Playoff Opener
Grills smoked in parking lots, tailgate games filled the asphalt, and fans packed American Family Field hours before the National League Division Series opener against the San Diego Padres, tmj4.com reported. The Milwaukee Brewers entered the postseason making their fourth consecutive appearance after securing 103 regular-season wins.
Playoff Atmosphere Draws Fans Past Homecoming
For 16-year-old Lizzie-Frances Bemis of Sheboygan, the playoff opener meant skipping her school homecoming. Bemis showed up at the ballpark wearing her freshman homecoming dress with her hair and makeup finished, traveling with her family after her father told her they would be at the Brewers game instead of the dance, tmj4.com reported. Bemis attended her first Brewers game at age 8 with her grandmother.
“I didn’t know they were going to the game, so I was really offended I wasn’t invited,” Bemis joked to tmj4.com, adding that she prioritized doing what she loves over the dance.
Tailgate Preparations Overcome Dead Batteries
Josh Lambie of Greenville faced travel trouble when the battery in the van he packed with friends and snacks died along the route to Milwaukee. Other Brewers fans stepped in with jumper cables to get the group moving again, tmj4.com reported.
“We had three people lined up with jumper cables because they knew we had to be here,” Lambie told tmj4.com. Once parked, his group fired up grills and played bags. “This is the best year we ever had a chance of winning the World Series,” Lambie said. “You see the smoke from the grills, all of this going on; this is what it’s all about. Nothing better than Brewers baseball.”
Brewers Fans Bring High Energy to Postseason Opener
Josh Stanelle of West Bend parked with his crew in a 1983 Chevrolet Brewers van, planning to attend every postseason game. Stanelle told tmj4.com that the young Brewers roster brings a distinct level of energy to this run. “This year is even more different,” Stanelle said. “I think it’s put on the gas all the way.” By the time the first pitch arrived, the parking lot remained active with smoke rising from grills as fans settled in for the series opener.
The Milwaukee Brewers continue their National League Division Series schedule against the San Diego Padres.
