Revolutionary Toaster Promises Perfect Toast After Decade-Long Development
Sydney, Australia – A new toaster boasting advanced sensor technology adn a $400 price tag has launched, promising to eliminate the guesswork and inconsistency of traditional toasting. Developed over ten years, the “Eye Q” toaster utilizes optical sensors to monitor bread’s colour change during the toasting process, aiming to deliver consistently golden results.
While a premium price point positions it outside the mainstream market, the Eye Q addresses a surprisingly common frustration: unevenly toasted bread. According to its creators, the toaster is designed for consumers who prioritize kitchen technology and seek the highest quality results, even if it means a important investment.
The Eye Q distinguishes itself with two or four optical sensors - depending on the model – that analyze the bread’s shade. The toaster utilizes whichever sensor detects the most colour change, even accounting for potential anomalies like raisins in fruit bread. “What if you’re toasting fruit bread and the sensor is actually looking at a raisin that doesn’t change colour? The toaster actually has two separate sensors, and goes by whichever observes the most shade change,” explained a representative.
Beyond its core functionality, the Eye Q offers specialized modes for delicate breads like sourdough, featuring an “extra careful” setting activated by double-pressing the button, which stops toasting slightly earlier. A timed toasting mode is also available by holding the button.
Though, convincing consumers to trust a machine to “watch” their toast, rather than relying on their own judgment, presents a challenge. Groundes-Peace, a representative from the development team, acknowledged this hurdle. “there were cases where we just felt like there’s enough frustration out there for us to do something about it. And I know that this isn’t a toaster that’s priced for everybody, and I know the technology is a little bit beyond what people might think is necessary for a toaster, but we think there is a market for it,” he said.
The company doesn’t anticipate the Eye Q dominating the toaster market, but believes it will find a niche among those willing to invest in premium kitchen appliances. “It’s not going to take over the entire toaster market right now. it’s realy for those people that want to invest in their kitchens and choose the best. we think it’s got a home in those kitchens.”
