The Brazilian national baseball team is scheduled to face Great Britain on March 10th, 2026, at 2:00 AM JST as part of the World Baseball Classic, according to an announcement made Tuesday by the Tochigi Golden Braves.
The team’s roster includes current Tochigi Golden Braves player João Gabriel Monteiro Marostica, known as “Marostica.” Four former players of the Tochigi Golden Braves will too represent Brazil in the tournament. Among the former players is Ugo Konfuku, who previously played for the Yomiuri Giants and the Yakult Swallows, as well as Daniel Ryuuke Misaki, Lucas Hojo and Hugo Kouchiniyo.
Brazil will compete in Pool B of the American Round, alongside the United States, Mexico, Italy, and Great Britain. The tournament will be held at the DAiKIN Park in Houston, Texas, from March 6th to March 11th, 2026. Brazil’s opening game is against the United States on March 7th, followed by a match against Italy on March 8th, and then Mexico on March 9th before facing Great Britain.
The Brazilian team’s composition has become more diverse in recent years, with a growing number of non-Asian descent players joining the ranks, including players with ties to Major League Baseball. Players such as Yan Gomes, Paulo Orlando, Leonardo Reginaldo, and the Viscetti brothers, along with Lucas Ramirez, son of Manny Ramirez, are all expected to contribute. The participation of Bo Viscetti has garnered significant attention, though his family situation—specifically, a strained relationship with his father—may present challenges for team dynamics.
The roster also includes pitchers Pedro Lemos, Gabriel Barbosa, Sun Omosako, and Gabriel Valboa, as well as infielders Enzo Sawayama and Arthur Tsujiguchi. Other notable players include Dylan Lee, Eric Pardinho, and Ugo Konfuku, a former Tochigi Golden Braves player.
Marostica, a pitcher for the Tochigi Golden Braves, was born on November 8, 2004. He began playing baseball in elementary school and attended Country Kids High School. He has a maximum fastball speed of 149 km/h and primarily throws a straight fastball, slider, and changeup.
