In a scenario of rapid geopolitical and economic transformations, strengthening ties between Brazil and India is essential to expanding commercial and technological exchanges and identifying partnership opportunities between the two countries. The Brazil-India Economic Forum, which took place on July 7th at the Museum of Tommorow in rio de janeiro, consolidated such relationship, promoting dialog between entrepreneurs, diplomats, and government representatives from both countries. The event was broadcast on ApexBrasil’s YouTube channel and is available in full.

The Forum took place in parallel with the BRICS Summit in the capital of Rio de Janeiro, which aimed to promote cooperation and alignment between countries with common progress challenges. The institute of Immunobiological Technology Institute (Bio-manguinhos/Fiocruz) plays a strategic role in strengthening global health within the BRICS context by integrating international networks and by leading projects to address health emergencies through cooperation with other countries in the Global South. the event was attended by the director of Bio-Manguinhos/Fiocruz, Rosane Cuber, who opened the Pharmaceutical Industry and Life Sciences panel.

According to Rosane Cuber, the Institute has been discussing joint strategies to expand equitable access to vaccines, to strengthen the response to epidemiological alerts, and to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 3: “Bio-Manguinhos is committed to promoting South-South partnerships, aligned with the Brazilian diplomatic tradition and with a focus on technical and scientific cooperation with countries facing similar challenges, such as India. The unit maintains active dialogue in forums such as the developing Countries Vaccine Manufacturers Network (DCVMN) and BRICS, in which it represents Brazil at the Vaccine R&D Centre,” she explained.

during the event,Rosane highlighted that, despite the potential for partnership between these countries, there are challenges that can be overcome. They fall notably into the regulatory and logistical fields, which can make the process of importing and registering active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) from the main global supplier, India, to Brazil, slower and more costly: “Brazil and India have many synergies in the areas of research, development, and production of health inputs, and maintain a history of mutual support. We must take advantage of this to advance structural partnerships that contribute to the creation of a more favorable environment for joint and sustainable innovation in favor of global public health,” she emphasized.
