Borderlands 4 Launch on Nintendo Switch 2 Indefinitely Delayed, Pre-Orders Refunded

September 23, 2025 ⁣- The release ⁢of ‍ Borderlands 4 on ⁤the Nintendo Switch 2 has been delayed ⁣indefinitely, Gearbox ‌Software announced ⁢Tuesday evening.Digital⁣ pre-orders on the Nintendo eShop have ⁤been canceled and refunds will begin processing on September 26, in accordance with Nintendo ‍policy.

The delay ‍comes as the ⁤game faces ⁣performance issues across ⁤multiple⁢ platforms, ‍including⁢ PC and⁤ other consoles. Gearbox stated they “do ⁣not take this ‍decision lightly,” ‌but are “committed⁤ to ensuring we deliver the best possible experience to our fans, and the game needs additional growth and polish time to do⁣ that.” The studio‌ hopes ⁣to align the Switch 2 release with the implementation of cross-saves for all versions of the game, but has not provided ⁢a timeframe for‌ either feature.

Borderlands 4, the latest⁣ installment in the⁤ popular looter-shooter franchise, launched earlier this⁤ month to a⁢ mixed ‍reception. Reports have‌ surfaced detailing performance concerns,‌ including a memory leak that causes the game to run progressively worse during extended play sessions. ⁤While initial impressions suggested⁢ the game‌ ran adequately on Switch 2,⁤ capped at 30fps, experiences on the Steam Deck have been⁤ described ‍as⁢ subpar. Digital Foundry’s analysis also indicated ‍performance issues across various platforms. ‍

Gearbox‌ boss Randy Pitchford has been actively engaging on social media ⁣as the⁤ game’s ⁢launch, but has not⁣ yet commented on the⁣ Switch 2 delay as of ‍this publication.
