Bolsonaro Clarifies Speech Restrictions Following Judicial inquiry
Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro‘s legal team has responded to a judicial decision that had caused confusion regarding his ability to express himself publicly. The defense clarified that Bolsonaro had not been formally notified of any prohibition on speaking via platforms, a measure that had drawn criticism from his supporters, the press, and legal professionals.
The lawyers had requested the magistrate to specify the exact scope of the expression restrictions imposed on the former head of state. in response, Judge Moraes stated on Thursday that Bolsonaro is not subject to any general ban on granting interviews or delivering speeches. According to the judge, the prohibition specifically targets the use of social media publications as a method to obstruct justice.
Bolsonaro, who is already ineligible to run for office until 2030 due to findings of disinformation concerning the electronic voting system prior to the 2022 election, maintains his innocence and claims to be a victim of political persecution. He faces potential imprisonment of up to 40 years if found guilty of attempted coup charges.
