Bogotá is set to become a hub for biological production with the upcoming launch of a new factory in 2030. Leonardo Arngocés, Director of Bogotá Bio and a graduate of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, has outlined several key projects associated with this initiative.
A significant aspect of the project involves a knowledge transfer from Syovac, the Chinese strategic partner. Approximately 500 Colombian professionals will receive training, ensuring that all production processes will be carried out in Colombia, rather than relying on imports from China.
The sustainability and growth of the Bogotá Bio facility are expected to be driven by the national government’s commitment as the primary purchaser of the biological products. This commitment was initially established thru a memorandum of understanding involving the Ministers of Health, Carolina Corcho and Guillermo Alfonso Jaramillo. The district government has affirmed its intention to honor the commitments made in December 2023, following negotiations with the pharmaceutical sector.
