“Bodybuilding for the Intestine“: Expert Advocates Balanced Diet & Proper Food Storage
HERGOLDING, GERMANY – A nutrition expert is advocating for a holistic approach to health, emphasizing a balanced diet and mindful food storage as key components of a thriving gut microbiome and overall well-being. The advice comes as increasing research highlights the critical link between intestinal health and immunity, mental health, and chronic disease prevention.
According to Löbert, a nutrition consultant from Hergolding, healthy eating isn’t about rigid rules, but a flexible path toward increased well-being. This includes not only consuming a colorful variety of foods but also understanding optimal storage practices to maximize freshness and minimize waste. Proper refrigeration, adapted to the fridge’s cold zones,is crucial.Dairy products and eggs should be stored longer in the middle compartment, while fish and meat belong in the lowest. Pre-cooked foods and leftovers are best kept in the top compartment.
Certain foods, like tomatoes, avocados, lemons, and bananas, should not be refrigerated at all. Interestingly, milk fares better in the vegetable compartment than in the refrigerator door. “Never should it [milk] be in the door. Milk is too sensitive to temperature fluctuations,” Löbert warns.
The expert stresses that awareness, not perfection, is the ultimate goal. By adopting these practices – from prioritizing colorful plates to correctly storing milk – individuals invest in their health and promote a more sustainable approach to food consumption.
