Toronto Blue Jays General Manager Ross Atkins and Manager John Schneider have both signed contract extensions, the club announced Monday, securing the leadership of the American League champions for the foreseeable future.

Atkins, who has overseen the Blue Jays’ front office since December 2015, will remain in his role through the 2031 season, a five-year extension. Schneider’s deal extends him through the 2028 campaign, adding two years to his existing contract. The extensions, announced by the team, come after a successful 2025 season that saw Toronto fall just short of a World Series title, losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in seven games.

The move was widely anticipated, particularly after Atkins signaled the club’s intention to retain Schneider beyond the 2026 season. Atkins’ tenure has been marked by a significant team rebuild following a period of contention in 2016. Under his leadership, the Blue Jays have consistently achieved winning records, with at least 89 wins in four of the past five seasons.

Schneider’s path to the manager’s office was a long one within the Blue Jays organization. Originally drafted by Toronto in the 13th round of the 2002 MLB Draft, he transitioned to coaching after his playing career ended, remaining with the team ever since. He served as interim manager during the 2022 season before being officially appointed to the full-time role at the conclude of that year. His record as skipper stands at 303-257, and he has guided the team to their best postseason result since their championship run in 1993.

“Schneids has been unbelievable,” Atkins said in a statement released in November. “He is a clear leader in this organization who is really, really quality at his job and I’m exceptionally proud to be working with him.”

The Blue Jays have been active in the offseason, bolstering their roster with key acquisitions including starting pitchers Dylan Cease, Cody Ponce and Max Scherzer, Japanese infielder Kazuma Okamoto and veteran reliever Tyler Rogers, signaling a continued commitment to contention. The team will open the 2026 season at home against the Oakland Athletics on Friday.

The extensions for both Atkins and Schneider follow a similar move in December, when Blue Jays chairman Edward Rogers granted team president and CEO Mark Shapiro a five-year contract extension through 2030, demonstrating a broad commitment to the current leadership structure.
