No. 1 Auburn Wins Record Third East Lake Cup Title
Logan Reilly Outduels Preston Stout as Auburn Claims Title at East Lake Golf Club
Logan Reilly defeated top-ranked amateur Preston Stout 3 and 2 on Wednesday in Atlanta, securing the decisive point as the No. 1 Auburn men’s golf team beat No. 3 Oklahoma State 4-1 to win a record third East Lake Cup title.
The championship match at East Lake Golf Club marked a time when Reilly and Stout faced off. Monday’s stroke-play round saw both players shoot 7-under 65s to share medalist honors, breaking the tournament’s previous 18-hole scoring record of 66 set by Scottie Scheffler in 2016.
When the two met head-to-head in match play on Wednesday, Stout took an early advantage by going 2 up through five holes.
Reilly responded by capturing four birdies over the next five holes to claim a 1-up lead. He closed out the match on the 16th hole, extending his individual match-play winning streak as a Tiger to seven matches.

How the Championship Match Unfolded
Auburn’s path to the 4-1 team victory required contributions across the lineup. Senior Josiah Gilbert put the Tigers on the board first with a 4-3 victory over Gaven Lane, holding a lead throughout the day. In the third spot, junior Billy Davis squared off against Eric Lee of Oklahoma State. Davis maintained an advantage for most of the round before Lee pulled even on the 18th hole, forcing extra holes.
Cayden Pope secured the fourth point for Auburn in the anchor spot, defeating John Wild 4-2 after taking the lead on the fourth hole. Filip Fahlberg-Johnsson provided Oklahoma State’s sole point of the afternoon by defeating Jake Albert 2-1.
“I’m proud of how tough this team is and how focused they were today,” Auburn head coach Nick Clinard said. “The energy was really high this week, which was really important when you’re playing really good teams like we were.”
Looking Ahead to the End of the Fall Season
The team victory moves Auburn past Illinois and Vanderbilt for the most men’s titles in the history of the East Lake Cup, adding to previous victories in 2018 and 2024. For Stout, the tournament served as a final tune-up before traveling to Mexico to compete in the VidantaWorld Mexico Open on the PGA Tour, followed by a break from competitive golf to hunt. Meanwhile, Reilly and the Tigers turn their attention immediately to the final stretch of their fall schedule, traveling to Loxley, Alabama, to compete in the Steelwood Collegiate from October 31 to November 1.
