Rare ‘Bloody super Moon’ to Grace Podlasie Skies September 7, 2025
PODLASIE, POLAND - Skywatchers in Podlasie are poised to witness a notable celestial event on the night of September 7, 2025: a total lunar eclipse coinciding wiht a supermoon, resulting in what’s often called a “Bloody Super Moon.” The eclipse promises a dramatic display as the moon transforms into a deep red hue, visible even from urban balconies, though optimal viewing will require venturing away from city lights.
This eclipse is especially noteworthy due to its rarity. Total lunar eclipses visible in Poland are infrequent occurrences, with the next not expected until December 31, 2028, followed by others in 2029 and 2032. This makes the September 7th event a unique prospect for residents and astronomy enthusiasts to observe a truly remarkable spectacle.
The eclipse will unfold throughout the evening, beginning with a subtle shading as the moon enters the Earth’s penumbra. Key viewing times include:
19:30 (7:30 PM): The moon will begin to take on an intense red color.
20:11 (8:11 PM): Maximum eclipse – the moon will appear darkest and most vividly red.
21:52 (9:52 PM): the moon will begin to emerge from the Earth’s shadow.
22:55 (10:55 PM): The eclipse will end, with the moon returning to its full brightness.
While the “Bloody Super Moon” is stunning to the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope will enhance the viewing experience, revealing details of lunar craters. The best locations for observation are areas distant from city lights - the countryside, lakesides, or mountains will offer the darkest skies and clearest views.
