Blizzard Clarifies Datamined Mounts Are Not Intended for WoW Forever
Datamined art assets discovered inside the latest World of Warcraft: Forever beta client have triggered fierce community debate over cash shop monetization and aesthetic fidelity, prompting official denials from Blizzard Entertainment regarding the intended destination of the files.

The Tech TL;DR:
- Dataminers uncovered retail-style mounts, pets, and cosmetics inside the latest WoW Forever beta client build.
- Community Manager Kaivax and Senior Art Director Jeff Parrott stated on October 16, 2026, that these assets are not intended for this version of the game.
- The beta test concludes on October 21, 2026, ahead of the global launch scheduled for November 4, 2026.
Datamined Assets Uncovered in Beta Client
The controversy began after a game update deployed on October 15, 2026. Shortly after the patch went live, dataminer Stiven extracted unreleased models from the client data. The discovery included three mounts, three pets, a toy, and two transmog ensembles. Wowhead subsequently detailed that these assets became readable through new tactkeys shipped within the Forever client files.
Relaying our forum note, below:A number of art assets were recently datamined in the latest Beta build of WoW Forever. While we appreciate the feedback and discussion online, please be advised that these assets are not intended for this version of WoW.https://t.co/ooF0WuRpuo
Among the items found, the Spectral Wolf Pack mount drew the most attention. Stiven demonstrated on X that summoning the mount spawns two ghostly wolves running beside the player, while nearby party members taking part in the summon temporarily adopt a spectral wolf appearance without sharing passenger seats. Additional findings included a Cape Rugged Totemic Backpack, a camp tent toy, a Verdant Sea Turtle mount, and a Crimson Rooster. Players quickly noted that these models feature high-resolution fidelity typical of modern retail World of Warcraft rather than the original 2004 aesthetic targeted by Forever, which is set between Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom and Molten Core.
Blizzard Responds to Community Concerns
As discussion regarding potential real-money microtransactions spread across social media and the official forums, Blizzard issued a direct clarification. Community Manager Kaivax posted a statement on October 16, 2026, addressing the leak. A number of art assets were recently datamined in the latest Beta build of WoW Forever,
Kaivax wrote. While we appreciate the feedback and discussion online, please be advised that these assets are not intended for this version of World of Warcraft.
WoW Senior Art Director Jeff Parrott shared the identical note on X shortly afterward.

The response left players divided. Some accepted the clarification at face value, viewing the files as leftover or misrouted development assets. Others remained skeptical, arguing that the presence of encrypted files and retail-style items inside the client indicates future microtransaction plans. Stiven noted that while these specific assets do not currently appear in the retail 12.1.7 PTR client or other Classic directories, similar cross-client file distribution has precedent in previous releases, such as the Rexxar shop sets discovered earlier on Titan Reforged servers in China.
Beta Timeline Nears Completion
With the beta testing phase entering its final days, players can access content up to level 30 until the test environment closes on October 21, 2026. Blizzard scheduled an open server stress test for Monday, October 19, 2026, allowing all users to participate without requiring beta access. The full version of World of Warcraft: Forever launches globally on November 4, 2026, included with a standard World of Warcraft subscription or active Game Time.
