Broadway’s ‘Chicago‘ Welcomes New Leads: marroquín, Mutu & Arnold Join cast

New York, NY – November 16, 2023Chicago, the longest-running american musical on Broadway, ushered in a fresh wave of talent tonight at the ambassador Theater. Bianca Marroquín returns to the production as Velma Kelly, joined by Tam Mutu as the charismatic Billy Flynn adn Jacqueline B. Arnold taking on the role of the formidable Matron ‘Mama’ Morton.

Marroquín’s connection to Chicago runs deep, boasting over 4,000 performances in both the roles of roxie hart and Velma Kelly. Her return marks a important moment for fans of the show, recognizing her enduring presence in the Broadway landscape. Mutu brings a wealth of Broadway experience, having previously captivated audiences in Moulin Rouge! and Dr. Zhivago. His off-Broadway credits include revivals of classics like Oliver!,Hey Look Me Over!,and The New Yorkers.

Arnold, a seasoned performer, steps into the role of Matron ‘Mama’ Morton following recent appearances in Smash, as well as Moulin Rouge! and Priscilla Queen of the Desert. She has also toured nationally with productions of Hairspray, Rent, and We Will Rock You, demonstrating her versatility and stage presence.

The current cast also features Dylis Croman as Roxie Hart, Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart, and J. London as Mary Sunshine. Rounding out the ensemble are Zach bravo, David Bushman, Jessica Ernest, Jeff gorti, Chelsea James, Arian Keddell, James T. Lane, Marty Lawson, Barrett Martin, Sharon Moore, Celina Nightengale, Kristen Faith Oei, Denny Paschall, mikayla Renfrow, Sean Samuels, samantha Sturm, Matthew Winnegge, and Jayke Workman.

A Legacy of Jazz Age Glamour

Chicago, directed by Tony winner Walter Bobbie and choreographed by the late, legendary Tony winner Ann Reinking, continues to enthrall audiences with its timeless story of ambition, corruption, and celebrity. The musical, set in the roaring 1920s, features a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, with music by John Kander and lyrics by Ebb.

First premiering in 1975, Chicago initially ran for 936 performances.However, it was the 1996 revival, directed by Bobbie and choreographed by reinking, that cemented its status as a Broadway icon. The revival surpassed A Chorus Line as the longest-running musical in Broadway history in 2006 and continues to draw crowds nightly at the Ambassador Theatre (219 W 49th St, New York, NY 10019).
