Beyond the Pale Festival Saved After Financial Scare
Music Lovers Rejoice as Irish Event Secures Future
The Beyond the Pale festival, set to take place in Glendalough, County Wicklow, has averted potential cancellation following concerns over its financial stability. Organizers confirmed the event is back on track for June 13-15, offering relief to thousands of ticket holders.
Last-Minute Rescue
Reports emerged over the weekend indicating the festival was in jeopardy due to the planned liquidation of Cupola Events Ltd, the company responsible for organizing the event. Declan Forde, the festival’s organizer, had reportedly informed stakeholders of the potential cancellation. However, a dramatic turn of events has secured the festival’s future.
In a statement released late last night, organizers expressed gratitude for the support received. Look, it’s unbelievably tough out there for independent festivals, venues, promoters, artists…we all know that. Today we very nearly stumbled. But the festival gods smiled upon us, and the fate of Beyond the Pale is secure for 2025, and for many years to come.
They added, Thanks for bearing with us today, thanks for all the messages and gestures of support… and see you at Glendalough next week!
The festival’s financial difficulties highlight a broader trend within the independent music scene. According to a 2024 report by the UK Music organization, independent venues experienced a 64% increase in business rates over the past five years, putting significant strain on their operations. Lineup and Ticket Information
This year’s Beyond the Pale lineup boasts an impressive roster of artists, including Jon Hopkins, Róisín Murphy, TV on the Radio, Boney M, Jeff Mills, and Samantha Mumba. Tickets remain available, with three-day camping passes currently priced at €269.
Past Success and Current Challenges
The Beyond the Pale festival debuted in 2022, attracting an initial audience of under 5,000 attendees. Last year’s event saw attendance rise to 10,000, and the festival was recognized with the Best Small Festival award at the 2024 Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) awards.
Despite the positive outlook, company records reveal that the annual accounts for Cupola Events Ltd have been overdue since December 2023, raising questions about the long-term financial health of the organization.
Dave Clarke, a DJ scheduled to perform at the festival, expressed his confusion regarding the situation. I’ll be travelling to Ireland,” he said. “I love it too much but it’s very confusing. I have seen this news coming from serious sources but the information changes all the time.
Organizers concluded their statement with a hopeful forecast: PS The forecast is hot and sunny.
Festival-goers can now look forward to a weekend of music and arts in the scenic Wicklow Mountains.
