Medellín Leads as América de Cali’s Struggles impact International Tournament Qualification
Bogotá, Colombia – August 31, 2024 – The ninth day of the Betplay League concluded with meaningful shifts in the reclassification table, determining qualification for next year’s international tournaments. Independiente Medellín solidified its position at the top, while América de Cali’s recent losses jeopardize their chances of competing internationally.
The reclassification table, which aggregates points from the current season, is crucial for determining which Colombian clubs will participate in the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana. currently, the top six teams secure international berths, with the highest-ranked teams earning spots in the Copa libertadores. América de Cali’s poor form under Gabriel Raimondi has placed their qualification in serious doubt, perhaps leaving them without international competition next year.
Independiente Medellín currently leads the table with 66 points, followed by Independiente Santa Fe with 61. Santa Fe has already secured their Copa Libertadores 2026 spot. Deportes Tolima is third with 61 points, Atlético Nacional is fourth with 59, and Junior de Barranquilla holds fifth place with 58 points. Millionarios currently occupies the sixth and final international qualification spot with 54 points.
América de Cali sits in seventh place with 53 points, facing an uphill battle to climb into the top six. The remaining teams in the table are: Atlético Bucaramanga (42 points), Alianza F.C. (41),Deportivo Pereira (40),Once Caldas (39),Fortaleza (35),Deportivo Pasto (35),Llaneros (34),Deportivo Cali (34),Boyacá Chicó (30),Golden eagles (28),Envigado (28),Equity (20),and Unión Magdalena (19).
