Berlin police are conducting an operation believed to be connected to the arson attack on electricity pylons in Köpenick’s Johannisthal neighborhood in mid-September, which triggered the largest power outage in Berlin as the end of World War II. The investigation centers on suspected left-wing extremist perpetrators, according to authorities.
The September 14th attack left approximately 50,000 customers of state-owned Stromnetz GmbH without power for up to 60 hours. Berlin’s Interior Senator Iris Spranger (SPD) stated following the incident that a letter of confession published online was considered authentic by investigators. The ongoing police operation suggests a potential breakthrough in identifying adn apprehending those responsible for the disruption and intentional damage to critical infrastructure.
