NBA Executive Suggests Ben Simmons‘ Career May Be Nearing Its end
Denver, CO – An NBA scout believes Ben Simmons’ career is effectively over, reporting limited interest from teams around the league despite the 29-year-old’s potential availability this offseason. The assessment comes after Simmons averaged a career-low 2.9 points in 16.4 minutes per game for the Los Angeles Clippers during the 2024-25 season.
Simmons secured a buyout from the Brooklyn Nets mid-season and joined the Clippers, finishing the year with a team that went 50-32. His role diminished significantly, and he saw minimal playing time during the playoffs, averaging just 8.4 minutes in five of seven contests.
“I don’t think there’s any real interest in him beyond teams putting out some feelers,” a scout told NBA insider Sam Amico. “So if he does retire, he can spin it as if it’s being done by choice. But I think teams are probably going to make that decision for him.”
Once a three-time All-star and two-time All-Defensive First Teamer with the Philadelphia 76ers, Simmons’ production has declined sharply in recent years. While acknowledging his remaining defensive capabilities and ballhandling skills, the scout suggested any potential role would be limited.
“He could still offer defense, ballhandling and decent reserve guard play to a contender,” the scout added. “But it would have to be the right situation and he’d need to understand he may not play more than 10 minutes some nights.”
Amico reports that the New York Knicks, Sacramento Kings, and Golden State Warriors have all been linked to Simmons at various points. Alternatively, a return to Australia’s National Basketball League (NBL) could be a lucrative option for the Australian native.
