Ben Simmons‘ Agent Parts Ways with Star After Knicks‘ Contract rejection
NEW YORK, NY – Bernie Lee, agent for former Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons, has dropped the player as a client following Simmons’ rejection of a contract offer from the New York Knicks, according to reports. The move signals a further downturn in the career of the once-promising NBA player.
Simmons, who played for the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Clippers last season, averaged just 5.0 points, 5.6 assists, and 4.7 rebounds in 51 games. This represents a notable decline from his time with the Sixers, where he was a three-time All-Star and earned All-NBA Third Team honors in 2020.
The Knicks reportedly extended Simmons a minimum deal, but the former No.1 overall pick declined the offer. A source indicated to the New York Post that Lee’s decision to sever ties came after simmons signaled disinterest in pursuing the Knicks’ proposal.
“A source said that decision occurred after the point guard sent signals that he wasn’t interested in whatever came from his agent’s conversations with the Knicks,” Stefan Bondy of the New York Post reported.
Rumors are circulating that Simmons is contemplating retirement. His recent struggles have been attributed to ongoing back injuries that appear to have diminished his athletic capabilities.
