Belmont Comic Shop Robbed: $1,700 Worth of Comics Stolen

BELMONT, N.C. (WBTV) – A ⁣Belmont ⁢comic shop was the target of ‍a theft Monday evening, resulting in ⁢the loss of approximately $1,654 in rare and ‌graded merchandise.

According to a​ police report, Doc’s Basement Comics, Toys and Games staff reported the​ incident⁢ occurred ⁤around 5:20 p.m. ‌on Monday, the 24th.‌ At least ten comic books and⁤ action figures were stolen.

Doc’s Basement staff has released security ‍footage images of two individuals they believe are connected to the ⁣theft and ⁢are asking for the public’s help in identifying them.

This is not the first time Doc’s Basement ⁢has ​faced adversity. In 2024,the⁤ store was vandalized with⁢ a slur painted on its exterior after a ⁢group of teens were provided complimentary comic books and refreshments. The community quickly rallied, with members and the⁢ local fire⁣ department assisting‌ in the cleanup, and many ⁢others offering financial ‌support.Owner ​Sam “Doc” Wilcox was ‌also greeted with a banner expressing community support, reading “We love you, Doc.”

Wilcox is now appealing to the public for assistance, ⁢requesting anyone with details regarding ⁤the⁢ theft ⁣to contact the Gastonia Police Department at 704-866-6702.
