BELMONT, N.C. (WBTV) – A Belmont comic shop was the target of a theft Monday evening, resulting in the loss of approximately $1,654 in rare and graded merchandise.
According to a police report, Doc’s Basement Comics, Toys and Games staff reported the incident occurred around 5:20 p.m. on Monday, the 24th. At least ten comic books and action figures were stolen.
Doc’s Basement staff has released security footage images of two individuals they believe are connected to the theft and are asking for the public’s help in identifying them.
This is not the first time Doc’s Basement has faced adversity. In 2024,the store was vandalized with a slur painted on its exterior after a group of teens were provided complimentary comic books and refreshments. The community quickly rallied, with members and the local fire department assisting in the cleanup, and many others offering financial support.Owner Sam “Doc” Wilcox was also greeted with a banner expressing community support, reading “We love you, Doc.”
Wilcox is now appealing to the public for assistance, requesting anyone with details regarding the theft to contact the Gastonia Police Department at 704-866-6702.
