Belgorod Region Faces Widespread Power Outages Following Ukrainian Strike
Belgorod, Russia – A Ukrainian military strike has caused important disruptions to the power grid in Russia’s Belgorod region, leaving parts of the city of Belgorod and surrounding areas without electricity, officials say. Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported the attack Sunday evening, describing the situation as “difficult.”
According to local media reports and Telegram channels, the strike impacted a heat and power plant, resulting in widespread outages. Several streets in Belgorod are without lighting, traffic lights are non-operational, and residents have been reportedly trapped in elevators.
regional authorities are working to restore power, prioritizing the connection of critical facilities to reserve generators. Gladkov emphasized these efforts in a statement Sunday. However, officials have warned that the power outages may hinder the dissemination of vital threat information, including rocket and drone attack warnings.
The outages extend beyond Belgorod city, impacting Old Oskol, Shebekino, and other towns within the region.Reports from local sources indicate a separate rocket attack targeted the “Luch” substation in Belgorod, exacerbating the energy crisis and causing disruptions to water supplies in some areas.
