George Becali’s opulent palace in Romania has been targeted by vandals for a second time in as many weeks, this time with messages including a birthday greeting to tennis star Simona Halep. The incidents raise questions about the perpetrator’s motives and security around the controversial businessman’s property.
The latest act of vandalism follows a similar incident last weekend, where graffiti covered the palace fence.Authorities suspect the same individual is responsible for both occurrences, according to Romanian sports outlet Digisport. While the messages appear disparate – ranging from religious declarations like “God is love” to the September 27 birthday wish for Halep – the repeated targeting of Becali’s residence is prompting scrutiny.
Police have identified and fined the vandal 6,000 lei (approximately $1,300 USD), but Becali dismissed the incidents with a curt statement. “That man is sick, I have nothing to do,” the owner of football club FCSB reportedly said, seemingly unconcerned by the repeated defacement of his property.
The palace has previously been a subject of public fascination and controversy, often linked to Becali’s high-profile legal battles and flamboyant lifestyle. This latest episode adds another layer to the ongoing narrative surrounding the businessman and his estate.
