Be2Can Film Festival Returns to Prague with Diverse International Lineup
Prague, Czech Republic – the Be2Can film festival will return to Prague cinemas October 8-15, showcasing twelve films drawn from prestigious festivals including Cannes, Berlin, and Venice. Venues hosting screenings and post-film discussions include kino Lucerna, Atlas cinema, and Edison Filmhub.
This year’s program features a wide range of genres, from satirical social commentary and animated features to tense thrillers. Opening the festival is Mother,starring Noomi Rapace,wich premiered in the Orizzonti section at the Venice Film Festival and offers a nuanced portrayal of Mother Teresa’s personal struggles. Directors Teona and Labina Mitevska will participate in discussions following the premiere and on October 9 at Edison Filmhub.
Other highlights include What Marielle Knows, a satirical film that competed for the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival, and Gabriel Mascaro’s Brazilian social sci-fi the Blue Trail, also from Berlin. The festival will also screen Lesbian Space Princess, winner of the teddy Award for best LGBTQ feature.
From Cannes, Be2Can will present Eagles of the Republic, a portrait of an authoritarian society, alongside documentaries Orwell: 2 + 2 = 5 by Oscar-nominated director Raoul Peck, and Difenstahl, examining the career of Leni Riefenstahl. The Disappearance of Josef Mengele by Kirill Serebrennikov will also be shown.
The lineup extends to include Japan’s thriller Exit 8 and The Little Sister, which earned Cannes’ Queer Palm and best actress award. Restored classics will also be featured, including Kevin Smith’s Dogma (1999) and Mamoru Oshii’s angel’s Egg (1985) in a remastered 4K edition.
Be2Can continues its collaboration with Prague’s Famu Film School, where a student jury comprised of Sarah Slavíčková, Eliška Jirásková, Valér Fucte, Matěj Lindner, and Ema Hůlková will evaluate entries. Awards will be announced at Edison Filmhub on October 15.
