Be2Can Film Festival: European Cinema Highlights in Prague

Be2Can ‍Film Festival Returns to Prague with Diverse​ International Lineup

Prague, Czech Republic – the‍ Be2Can ​film festival will return to Prague cinemas October 8-15, showcasing twelve films drawn from prestigious festivals including Cannes, Berlin, and Venice. Venues hosting screenings and post-film discussions include kino Lucerna, Atlas cinema, and Edison Filmhub.

This year’s program ​features a​ wide range of genres, from satirical social ⁤commentary and animated features to tense thrillers. Opening the‍ festival is Mother,starring⁢ Noomi ⁣Rapace,wich ⁢premiered in the Orizzonti section at the Venice‌ Film Festival and offers a ‌nuanced portrayal of ‍Mother Teresa’s personal ​struggles.⁤ Directors Teona and Labina⁤ Mitevska ⁢will participate in discussions following the premiere and on⁤ October 9 at Edison Filmhub.

Other highlights include ‌ What Marielle Knows, a satirical film⁢ that⁣ competed for the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival, and ‌Gabriel Mascaro’s Brazilian social⁢ sci-fi the Blue Trail, also from Berlin. The festival will also screen Lesbian Space Princess, winner ‍of the teddy Award⁣ for best LGBTQ ⁤feature.

From Cannes, Be2Can will present Eagles ‌of ‍the ⁢Republic, a portrait of an authoritarian‌ society, alongside documentaries Orwell: 2​ +‍ 2 = 5 by Oscar-nominated director Raoul Peck, and Difenstahl, ⁢examining the career of ‍Leni⁤ Riefenstahl. The Disappearance⁣ of Josef Mengele by Kirill Serebrennikov ⁤will also be shown.

The lineup extends to include Japan’s thriller Exit 8 and ⁢ The Little​ Sister, which earned Cannes’ ⁣Queer⁣ Palm‍ and best‍ actress⁢ award. Restored classics ⁢will also be featured, including Kevin ⁤Smith’s Dogma (1999) and Mamoru ⁢Oshii’s ⁣ angel’s⁢ Egg (1985) in a remastered ‍4K edition.

Be2Can ⁤continues its collaboration with Prague’s Famu Film School, where a student jury comprised of Sarah Slavíčková, Eliška Jirásková,‍ Valér Fucte, Matěj Lindner, and‍ Ema Hůlková will evaluate entries. Awards will ‌be announced at Edison Filmhub on October 15.
