The BBC has secured broadcast rights for The Women’s Open golf tournament, extending it’s commitment to women’s sports coverage. The agreement was finalized with The R&A, the governing body for the championship.
This new free-to-air deal follows a recent extension of BBC rights for the men’s Open, which includes radio and TV highlights. Sky Sports has held the live TV coverage rights for the men’s event for the past eight years.
The announcement coincides with the ongoing 2025 edition of the Women’s Open, sponsored by AIG, which commenced yesterday at the Royal Porthcawl course in South Wales. BBC Sounds is currently providing continuous live commentary for the tournament, from the opening tee shot through to the final putt on Sunday, August 3.
In broader women’s sports news, the BBC, in partnership with ITV, recently announced a rights deal for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Earlier in July, the BBC also confirmed a new broadcasting agreement for Premiership women’s rugby (PWR) matches covering the 2025-26 and 2026-27 seasons.
