Bas Smit Apologizes After Nathalie Mogbelzada Criticizes Post
Former Miss Universe Netherlands Nathalie Yasmin Mogbelzada criticized entrepreneur and presenter Bas Smit on TikTok for posting an unsolicited photograph of her walking with her grandfather at Het Amsterdamse Winterparadijs in 2018, accompanied by a caption suggesting the elderly man had purchased her, Shownieuws reported.
The 2018 Incident at Het Amsterdamse Winterparadijs
The photograph was taken without Mogbelzada’s knowledge during a family visit to the event organized by Smit in 2018. Smit shared the image with his nearly one million Instagram followers alongside the text, “Zijn dure camera verraadt een hoop. Maar zeg ‘t maar! ‘Daughter’ or ‘Bought her?'” The remark implied that the older man on the arm of the model was a client rather than her grandfather.
Mogbelzada recounted the experience in a TikTok video, noting the irony that Smit currently presents the dating series Love Is Blind alongside his wife, Nicolette van Dam. The Netflix program places participants in a situation where they choose partners without seeing them first, built on the premise that appearance is secondary to personality.
Mogbelzada stated that her grandfather was deeply unhappy upon seeing the Instagram Story when it was published. She explained that she chose to leave the matter alone at the time, but the recent premiere of Smit’s new television project prompted her to speak out about being judged on her appearance by the same presenter.

Smit Apologizes After Viewers Criticize Sexist Post
Viewers filled the comment section of the TikTok post with criticism, labeling the original post sexist and insulting. Juice vlogger Sarah Posh also published a video condemning Smit’s behavior.
Smit responded directly in the comments underneath Mogbelzada’s TikTok video, writing, “Hi Nathalie, heb je een dm gestuurd 🙏”. According to Mogbelzada, Smit has since sent a private message offering an apology for the incident. Shownieuws reached out to Smit for additional comment regarding the exchange.
