AWS expands FSI Immersion Day programme across Southeast Asia
Amazon Web Services has expanded its Financial Services Industry Immersion Day programme across Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand to train banking professionals in cloud risk, compliance, operational resilience, and generative artificial intelligence.
The training initiative targets risk, compliance, and controls teams within regulated financial institutions across those five Southeast Asian markets. Participants face growing pressure from financial supervisors to demonstrate competence in evaluating both cloud-related and artificial intelligence vulnerabilities as generative AI moves into live production environments.
Training Tracks for Risk and Technical Resilience
The educational programme is split into two specialized tracks designed for different professional layers within financial institutions. The Risk and Compliance Immersion Day requires no prior technical knowledge of Amazon Web Services infrastructure. It focuses on regulatory requirements, third-party assurance frameworks, cloud governance, and generative AI risk for participants across all three lines of defense, including legal and procurement teams.
The Resiliency Immersion Day addresses advanced technical topics for subject matter experts operating at a technical depth of L200 or above. This track covers fault isolation boundaries, multi-region architecture, observability, and chaos engineering. The curriculum directly addresses the technical architecture required to meet strict operational resilience standards in cloud environments.
Regulatory Scrutiny and Governance of Foundation Models
The Risk and Compliance track covers country-specific regulations, the shared responsibility model, business continuity, identity management, and data security. A dedicated module examines the control frameworks necessary for deploying foundation models responsibly. This includes model governance, data lineage, guardrails to manage hallucination risks, and prompt injection vulnerabilities.
Financial supervisors across the region are raising expectations around operational resilience and AI governance, according to Jeff Axelrad, Director, Global Head FSI Compliance at Amazon Web Services. Manual and retrospective control processes built for on-premise environments cannot scale to meet cloud-native architectures.
Regulators across the region are raising their expectations around operational resilience and AI governance — and rightly so. The manual, retrospective control processes that served institutions in on-premise environments simply cannot scale in cloud-native architectures. That gap is no longer theoretical; it’s operational.
Generative AI offers a path toward continuous assurance and automated evidence collection, Axelrad stated.
Closing the Knowledge Gap in Southeast Asian Banking
The initiative responds to a widening gap between the speed of cloud migration and the development of internal risk oversight capabilities. Financial institutions must demonstrate to auditors that risk personnel are actively trained in cloud governance and AI controls.
Financial institutions across Southeast Asia sit at varying stages of cloud adoption, but risk and compliance teams must build literacy alongside technology counterparts, according to Jeff Johnson, Managing Director, Amazon Web Services ASEAN.
Financial institutions across Southeast Asia are at different stages of their cloud journeys, but one thing is clear: risk and compliance teams need to build cloud and AI literacy at the same pace as their technology counterparts. The acceleration of generative AI adoption has made this more urgent. Regulators don’t just want awareness of new technology risks, they want to see teams equipped to assess and govern them with confidence. Jeff Axelrad
The 2026 edition of the Risk and Resiliency Immersion Program concluded in June 2026 after receiving strong participation across the financial sector. Amazon Web Services plans to announce additional risk training programmes early next year to keep pace with changing regulations.
