Aitana Bonmati Secures Historic Third Consecutive Ballon d’Or; Dembélé Honored
PARIS – Spain’s Aitana Bonmati made history on September 23, 2025, becoming the first footballer-male or female-to win the Ballon d’Or three years running.The prestigious award recognizes the world’s best player, and Bonmati’s achievement solidifies her status as a dominant force in women’s soccer. Ousmane Dembélé also received recognition at the ceremony.
Bonmati’s win marks the fifth consecutive year a player from FC Barcelona has claimed the women’s Ballon d’Or, continuing a period of Catalan dominance. Alexia Putellas previously won the award in both 2021 and 2022, preceding Bonmati’s consecutive victories. This sustained success for Barcelona underscores the club’s investment in and commitment to women’s soccer.
While German goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger of Gotham FC delivered a strong performance, particularly at the european Championship, she finished behind england’s hannah Hampton in the goalkeeper rankings. Sarina wiegman was recognized as the best coach,following her leadership of England to another championship title. Luis Enrique, who guided Paris Saint-Germain to Champions league victory, was also honored as a top coach.
