The German research project vamex is⁣ pioneering the first practical‌ use of autonomous robot swarms to search for water and ⁣life on Mars. tested successfully ‌in a quarry, the swarm – comprising rovers, a spider-like robot, and drones – navigated challenging terrain and deployed navigation beacons.

A key component is a digital⁣ twin of mars, allowing robots‌ to practise interaction. ⁢Led by the University of Bremen, VaMEx aims to create a collaborative system ready for commercial development, with potential Earth-based applications ‌in⁤ agriculture and disaster control.
