At least 31 people, including a baby, have died and 60 were sent to hospital in the Philippines after a ferry carrying 250 passengers caught fire. Flames engulfed the vessel, the MV Lady Mary Joy 3, overnight, leaving some stranded in their cabins. The fire raged for more than eight hours. The boat had departed from Zamboanga in the southern Philippines on 27 July. An investigation is underway to establish the cause of the fire, although it is not thought to have been caused by militants. Technical mishaps and maritime disasters are frequent in the Philippines.
