Australia’s Molly Picklum scores near-perfect wave but falls short in Trestles Pro final | Surfing

Picklum Surges with Trestles Runner-Up Finish

Australian surfer Molly Picklum delivered an impressive performance at the Trestles Pro in California, securing second place and solidifying her position among the top contenders. This strong showing marks a significant step forward for the young athlete, setting the stage for a thrilling finish to the season.

Picklum’s Stellar Performance

Picklum achieved her best result over Californian Caity Simmers in their seventh meeting, thanks to a nearly flawless ride. The Australian scored a remarkable 9.6 points, the highest women’s score of the season, during the semi-final. However, Picklum was edged out by Bettylou Sakura Johnson in the final.

Picklum‘s second-place finish strengthened her hold on third place in the rankings, well ahead of fourth place. The World Surf League’s data indicates that a surfer’s performance in the first half of the season is crucial for their overall ranking (World Surf League).

Other Top Performances

In the men’s competition, Joel Vaughan saw his run end in the quarter-finals. Jack Robinson narrowly lost to Kanoa Igarashi in the semi-finals. Yago Dora of Brazil ultimately took the victory in the final, defeating Igarashi.

Ethan Ewing also reached the quarter-finals. Both he and Robinson are looking for a place in the final five, which will compete in Fiji for the title.

The surfing tour is now heading to Saquarema, Brazil, with the competition window opening on June 21.
