Australian Sprint Champion Jake Doran Arrested for Child Charges
Former Australian 100m sprint champion Jake Doran faces a court appearance in Townsville on November 5, after Queensland police arrested and charged the 26-year-old athlete with one count of indecent treatment of a child under 16, theguardian.com reported.
Police Arrest Doran on Child Indecent Treatment Charge
Queensland police arrested Doran on October 13. Investigators examined a period stretching from January 2025 to September 2026 before laying the charge, which specifies one count of “indecent treatment of child under 16 (indecent film etc).” Following his arrest, authorities granted Doran bail ahead of his scheduled court date at the Townsville magistrates court.

At the time of his arrest, Doran worked in business development at Tafe Queensland and had been training athletes in Townsville. A Tafe Queensland spokesperson stated that the allegations are understood to be unrelated to the individual’s employment, campus activities, or students and staff, though the organization suspended the employee from duty while the matter moves through the courts.
Athletic Governing Body Response
Australian Athletics confirmed that Doran holds no paid or unpaid role with the national governing body. However, the organization imposed a provisional action against the sprinter based on information provided to them. A spokesperson for Australian Athletics stated that the organization prohibited Doran from attending club, member association, or Australian Athletics events, alongside a complete ban from participating in athletics training. Queensland Athletics declined to comment on the matter.

Doran captured national attention at the 2022 Australian national championships by winning the 100m title in a wind-assisted time of 10.05 seconds, crossing ahead of current Australian representative Eddie Nketia. That performance earned him selection for the world championships and the Commonwealth Games, followed by a national 200m title in 2023. His times slowed in subsequent seasons, failing to dip below 10.39 seconds in the 100m since 2023. In the wake of the arrest, Doran deleted his Instagram account and his profile was removed from the Australian Athletics website.
