Australian Minjee Lee Finishes Third at LPGA Shanghai as Thitikul Claims Victory
SHANGHAI – Jeeno Thitikul of Thailand secured her first LPGA Tour victory at the Shanghai tournament, finishing at 24 under par after a dramatic playoff win over Minjee Lee. Australia’s Lee finished outright third at 19 under par, marking her seventh top-five result, eighth top-10, and 15th top-20 finish in 20 events this season.
Thitikul and Lee combined for 14 birdies and an eagle in regulation play, both ending the tournament at 24 under par.The playoff was ultimately decided on the 77th hole, where Thitikul made a winning birdie to overcome previous runner-up finishes, including a recent loss to Charley Hull after a four-putt.
“What happened on the last event definitely was still in my mind, but to be able to prove myself again this tournament is just such … a dream come true,” Thitikul said. “I’ve had so many dramas in my golf career, for sure.”
lee’s third-place finish continues a strong 2025 season, highlighted by her Women’s PGA Championship triumph in June. While a stellar year, she will likely need another victory to secure the player-of-the-year award.
“I feel like I did a lot of things well these past four days, despite being really over heated every single day,” Lee stated. “I would like to get my driving a little bit cleaner for the next few weeks, but I’ve been striking it pretty well with my irons and doing pretty well with the putter as well. So going into next week and and CME [the Tour Championship], I think I could bring everything together and hopefully contend in all these weeks as well.”
