Australia Minjee Lee Misses Player-of-the-Year Title After Close LPGA Shanghai Loss

Australian Minjee Lee Finishes Third at LPGA Shanghai as ⁣Thitikul Claims Victory

SHANGHAI – Jeeno Thitikul ‍of Thailand secured‌ her first LPGA Tour victory ⁤at the Shanghai tournament, finishing at ‍24 under par after a dramatic playoff win over Minjee Lee. Australia’s⁢ Lee finished outright third at 19 under⁣ par, marking her seventh top-five result, eighth top-10,⁤ and 15th top-20 finish in 20 events this season.

Thitikul and Lee combined for 14 birdies and an eagle in regulation⁤ play, both ending⁣ the tournament at 24 under par.The playoff ⁣was ultimately decided on the 77th hole,where Thitikul made a winning ⁢birdie ⁤to overcome previous runner-up finishes,including a recent loss to Charley Hull after a four-putt.

“What happened on the last event⁤ definitely was ⁢still in my mind, but to be able to prove myself again this tournament is just such … a dream come true,” Thitikul said. “I’ve ‍had so many dramas in my golf ‌career, for sure.”

lee’s third-place⁤ finish ‌continues a strong 2025 season, highlighted by her Women’s PGA Championship triumph in June. While a stellar year, she will likely need another ⁢victory to secure the player-of-the-year award.

“I feel like I did a lot ‌of things well these past four days,despite being really over heated every single day,” Lee stated. “I would like⁤ to get my driving a little bit cleaner for the next few weeks, but‌ I’ve been striking it ‍pretty well with my irons and​ doing pretty well with the putter as well. So going into next week and and CME [the Tour Championship], I think I could bring everything together and hopefully contend in all these weeks as well.”
