Austin Film Society Schedules Intro To Producing Zoom Session
The Austin Film Society has scheduled an introductory Zoom session titled Intro To Producing for November 16, running from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Registration costs $35 for the general public and $30 for society members, with virtual access links sent to participants 24 hours before the two-part series begins.
Virtual Program Teaches Film Production and Leadership Skills
The virtual program covers foundational elements of film and video production. Students explore different types of projects and distinct producing roles, learning how to map out production stages and key deliverables across every phase. The curriculum also addresses best practices for choosing collaborators, setting expectations, and building healthy team dynamics. Instructors will guide participants through the creative, logistical, and emotional aspects of the job, focusing on leadership, communication, and management skills within the director-producer relationship.
Instruction Led by National Emmy-Nominated Director
National Emmy-nominated director Chelsea Hernandez will teach the course. Hernandez brings extensive industry experience spanning community-centered and social justice storytelling. Her debut feature film, Building the American Dream, premiered at SXSW and aired on PBS, while her second feature, Breaking the News, debuted at Tribeca and also broadcast on PBS. Her work earned the 2023 David Carr Award for Truth in Nonfiction Filmmaking. Texas Monthly named her among the filmmakers driving a new golden age in the state. She participates as a Warner Media 150 Artist and a Firelight Media Doc Lab fellow, alongside her role as co-founder of Tejanas in Film, a collective supporting Latine filmmakers in Texas.
Zoom Seminar Offers Discounted Registration for AFS Members
Participants can access the seminar remotely through Zoom. The Austin Film Society structured the pricing tiers to offer a discount for AFS members, with fees set at $35 for general admission and $30 for members. Registrants receive their individual viewing links one day prior to the November 16 start time. This session provides emerging creators with concrete tools, terminology, and structural frameworks to begin their work in independent film and video production.
