AGD to Migrate to Microsoft 365, Paving Way for AI Tools

The Attorney-General’s Department (AGD) is set to complete its migration to Microsoft 365 in September 2025, a move designed to enhance staff productivity and lay the groundwork for adopting advanced technologies like AI-powered tools such as Copilot.

The initiative involves establishing an information architecture for Microsoft Teams and SharePoint, integrated with the department’s existing Azure and cloud environments. This foundational architecture will support the adoption of future technologies and improve information governance through increased automation.

In its Data Strategy 2025-2027, the AGD highlighted a key outcome of facilitating advanced data analytics, data science, and data governance, while supporting the adoption of secure AI and machine learning tools. For this purpose, the department has also established an AI Unit to collaborate across government on AI adoption and capability.

This strategic shift aligns with the AGD’s broader digital transformation efforts, which also include plans to reduce the outsourcing of core ICT and digital functions. the department aims to cut outsourcing expenditure related to core ICT,digital solutions, and technical services by $1.89 million in the current financial year compared to the previous one.
