Kentucky Man Alleges Excessive Force During Traffic Stop, daughter Witnessed Arrest
Boyle County, KY – A Garrard County man is seeking legal recourse after a traffic stop resulted in eight charges and allegations of excessive force against a Kentucky State Police trooper. Attorney Ephraim Helton claims his client, Devin Langsdorf, was subjected to unnecessary brutality during the arrest.
According to the arrest citation, Langsdorf was initially stopped for speeding, clocked at 86 mph in a 55 mph zone. However, the situation escalated, leading to charges including speeding 26 mph or greater over the limit, reckless driving, failure to produce proof of insurance, failure to maintain insurance, disorderly conduct (2nd degree), resisting arrest, operating a vehicle without a registration receipt, and endangering the welfare of a minor.
While langsdorf admits to exceeding the speed limit, Helton vehemently denies the remaining seven charges. He alleges the trooper used excessive force during the arrest, stating, ”Because you’re speeding doesn’t justify being kicked repeatedly in the ribs, it doesn’t justify being hit in the back.”
The incident took a especially distressing turn as Langsdorf’s three-year-old daughter was a passenger in the vehicle. Helton described the lasting trauma inflicted upon both father and child. “you can hear the screams,” he said. “He can’t sleep now, he has nightmares and night sweats. His daughter is afraid of law enforcement now.”
helton is demanding accountability for the trooper’s actions and hopes to prevent similar incidents in the future.”If you can’t control yourself when you’re pulling someone over just for speeding, then what are you going to do in a real critical situation?” he questioned.
The case raises concerns about police conduct and the potential for trauma experienced by families during traffic stops. Further examination is expected as Langsdorf prepares to fight the charges and seek justice.
