A significant disturbance occurred in Medellín on tuesday, July 29, prior to the football match between Atlético Nacional and Cúcuta Deportivo. A group of fans initiated a violent altercation on Carrera 70, causing alarm among residents and passersby.

The Metropolitan Police reported that the incident began around 2:20 p.m. between the Iván de Bedout Coliseums and the Gymnastics venue.The clash reportedly involved supporters of Cúcuta Deportivo and members of an Atlético Nacional fan group known as “La Banda Pirata.”

Tensions apparently escalated when another atlético Nacional fan group, “Los del Sur,” became involved, leading to the physical confrontation.

Following the outbreak of violence, Cúcuta fans sought refuge within the Salazar y Herrera University.

police intervention resulted in the apprehension of 60 individuals, predominantly Cúcuta supporters. These individuals were transported to a transfer center for their protection and afterward arranged to be moved to Cúcuta.

Authorities also reported the seizure of 25 bladed weapons during security operations around the stadium.

“This incident will be reviewed during the next session of the Local Security, Comfort, and coexistence Commission in Medellín,” stated the police.
